Building Skills for Fun and Friends

1. Who should Attend?

Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Developmental Delays, Sensory and Auditory Processing Disorders.

2. What is the criteria for acceptance to the camp?

  • Must be between the ages of 4 to 15 years old.
  • Must be ambulatory.
  • Must be toilet trained.
  • Must not have active seizures.
  • Must be able to participate in group activities.

3. What makes Camp Integrations different?

  • All camp activities are therapeutic and are chosen and designed to address improved neuromotor and sensorimotor organization while functioning in a group environment.

  • While therapy is not provided on a one-to-one basis, every child attending the camp is assigned a single therapist who provides individual support and assist the child in participating in group activities.

  • This is an outcome-driven camp. OT/PT/ST behavioral therapy outcomes are driven by the concerns identified by each child's family as having the most impact on the child functioning at home and school.

  • We implement a holistic comprehensive approach to treatment. While most therapeutic camps focus on one specific intervention to address multiple needs (e.g., swimming, therapeutic horseback riding, music), we offer the benefit of varied and diversified therapeutic strategies to address sensory-motor integration dysfunction, and enable our children to experience peer interaction in the context of a typical camp experience.

  • We provide therapeutic interventions with the focus on social participation through a variety of fun activities and games, rather than focusing on isolated skills and abilities.

  • Our camp is designed to met the needs of multiple diagnostic groups including: Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Developmental Delays and Sensory Processing Disorders.

8. Can siblings with no-special needs participate in the camp?

While our purpose is to offer children with sensory processing or spectrum disorders a chance to have fun and participate in a theraputical day-camp, an opportunity that they migh not otherwise experience in a different type of camp, we do reserve a few spaces for siblings with no special needs. However, these spaces are very limited and are offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Yes, we offer a $100.00 registration discount for siblings.

We actively pursue grants to provide subsidized tuition relief for families. If we are awarded any grants for the 2008 camp season, we will notify parents and provide discounts or rebates as they become available.

11. What do we need to bring to camp?

Once your child is registered for camp, you will receive confirmation of your registration by mail, along with a list of specific requirements and your child's detailed schedule.

12. Are parents involved in camp?

To facilitate more independence and full inclusion in camp activities, we do find it more effective to have the children experience camp independent of their parents. We do however have daily conferences with parents at the time of child pick-up. At these meetings, parents have a chance to converse with their chlid's assigened therapist, and are provided with a daily written log of their child's progress at the camp.

13. Can parents observe camp?

Parents are not able to observe camp; however we provide a photo journal on DVD at the end of camp that documents your child's activities during the week.

14. What if my child is on a special diet?

We typically provide a mid-morning and afternoon snack to campers. Parents supply lunch. We will be happy to ensure that your child only eats the food that you supply for lunch and snacks during camp if he or she is on a restricted diet.

15. My child is on medication, what do I do?

We are willing to accommodate your child's medication needs. To do this we require:

  1. A parent signed medication administration consent form AND,
  2. A physician's note stating that the prescription is medically necessary.

16. Does my child need to know how to swim?

While your child will be supervised in the pool, we ask that they should have a comfort level in the pool to get the full benefit and to be able to participate in the therapeutic activities.

17. Does my child need to be a FL state resident to participate?

No, we welcome children from around the country and international participants.

18. What if I am coming from out of town?

We suggest flying into Ft. Lauderdale International Airport-located about 15-20 minutes from the campsite. The camp administrator will have information regarding discounted rates at a nearby hotel.

19. Do I need a rental car?

Children and participants will be transported between camp activities. We do recommend having a car for those wanting to have access to the many south Florida activities post camp sessions. Public transportation is not easily accessible.
